One of the biggest regrets I have from when we first time campers was not making a checklist…

When it comes to camping, there is some camping gear for families that just can’t be missed! Our family takes at least three camping trips each year. We have camped in tents and trailers and there is some camping gear you must bring for your family!

One of the biggest regrets I have from when we first time campers was not making a checklist. It took me YEARS to make a list and after I did I was ALWAYS much more prepared! I also, wasn’t as stressed which allowed me to relax more and have a better time camping with my family.

I will never forget the year we forgot our fishing poles and had to spend an extra $400 on all the reels, rods, and fishing gear we needed. It caused a huge argument between my husband and me and cut into our budget. This caused us to have to cut out some of our plans because we didn’t have enough money left.

I tell you this in hopes that you do not experience the same thing with your family and start using a checklist!

Camping without the proper gear can be a real pain. The best way to be sure you have everything you need is to have a checklist on hand. This is sure to make your trip a success. Here I will list some of the most important camping gear essentials I have found to make camping with your family a truly wonderful experience.

Best Camping Gear for Families

Shelter

There are a few different types of shelter to bring when camping. The most important is to make sure you have a shelter that will protect you from the elements. If you are not camping in a trailer you have some important choices to make.

Your choices are a tent, a tarp, or a canopy. Tents are the most popular option, but they can be heavy and difficult to set up. Tarps are lighter and easier to set up, but they offer less protection from the wind and rain. Canopies are the most weatherproof option, but they are also the heaviest and most expensive. Decide which type of shelter is best for your needs and pack it along with your other camping gear.

Here are a few I found that may help you in making this choice.

When camping with a family and younger kids, a tent is typically the best type of shelter because it is the most popular option and offers the most protection from the elements. Tents are heavier and more difficult to set up than other types of shelters, but they provide the most protection from wind, rain, and other weather conditions. If you are looking for a shelter that will keep you and your family safe and dry, then in my opinion a tent is the best option. Be sure to choose a big enough tent that will also have enough room for some of your camping supplies.

Sleeping Gear

When camping with a family, it is important to have the proper sleeping gear. This includes sleeping bags, cots and mattresses.

Choosing the best sleeping bag is important because they keep you warm and comfortable while you sleep. When you have small kids a high quality mattress is important to keep them warm. Mattresses are necessary for providing cushioning and support for your body. Queen-sized air mattresses can are usually a great choice. Lastly, you can go an extra step and buy cots. When camping in a tent bringing a cot for each member of your family will ensure that everyone can enjoy a good night’s sleep. Sleeping off the ground can keep you much warmer and overall you will be more comfortable.

Time to Relax

Bringing along some things to relax with is essential. You may not think of these things, but I promise you will be glad you did. I think having some things that you can bring along for rest and relaxation is just as important as anything else you bring.

This can include a portable hammock, camp chairs, or a recliner. Hammocks are a great way to relax and enjoy the outdoors. They are comfortable and provide a great view of your surroundings.

Chairs and recliners are perfect for sitting around the campfire and relaxing after a long day of hiking or exploring.

Kitchen and Cooking Gear for Camping with Families

When camping you’ll want to bring along some things to cook with. This includes a stove, pots and pans, utensils, and food. A stove is necessary for cooking food while camping. There are a few different types of stoves to choose from, including propane stoves, liquid fuel stoves, and canister stoves.

Propane stoves are the most popular option because they are easy to use and portable. Liquid fuel stoves are more durable but less portable than propane stoves. Canister stoves are the lightest and most portable option but they are also the least durable.

Pots and a frying pan are necessary for cooking food while camping. Choose a set that is lightweight and easy to pack. Make sure the pots and pans have a non-stick coating so they are easy to clean. Utensils are also important for cooking while camping. Choose a set of utensils that is lightweight and easy to pack.

Food is an important part of any camping trip. Make sure you pack food that is easy to cook and does not require a lot of preparation time. Dehydrated foods are a good option because they are lightweight and easy to prepare. Instant meals are also a good option because they are quick and easy to make. Don’t forget plenty of water bottles!

Don’t forget you can also make things easier by bringing paper plates, bowls and plastic utensils.

Clothing & Footwear

When camping, it is important to dress in layers. This will help you stay warm when it is cold and cool when it is hot. A few obvious key pieces of clothing to bring camping include a jacket, pants, a shirt, and socks. You may also want to dress your young kids in bright colors so you can easily spot them in the woods.

A jacket is necessary for keeping you warm in the cooler temperatures. Choose a jacket that is lightweight and easy to pack. Pants are also important for keeping you warm. Choose a pair that is lightweight and can be easily packed away. A shirt is a key piece of clothing for staying cool when it is hot outside. Choose a lightweight and breathable shirt. A good pair of wool socks are also great for keeping your feet warm and comfortable.

Make sure to pack plenty of socks and underwear because you will likely be doing a lot of walking while camping and will need to change your clothes often. Be sure to also pack hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen if you will be spending time outdoors.

Hiking Essentials

If you will be hiking, then choose clothes that are comfortable and allow you to move freely.

If you are going on a day hike or longer hikes on your camping trip, it is important to bring along the proper footwear that has great traction. Hiking boots are the best option for choosing the right hiking gear for little hikers. They are sturdy and provide support for your feet. They also protect your feet from getting wet and muddy on a hiking trail. The only downside is the extra cost. However, you will use these for a long time and they are usually good for any type of hike. With the proper gear, a family hike can be lots of fun!

Outdoor Gear

When camping with your family, it is important to bring along the right gear for the outdoors. This includes a good quality lantern, small backpack or child-sized backpack, flashlight, favorite water bottle, insect repellent and a map. These things also make a great addition to a hiking adventure that is a longer distance.

Safety Gear

When camping with young children, one important thing is to bring along a first aid kit. This will allow you to treat minor injuries and wounds. It is also important to bring a compass. This will help you find your way around the campground and the surrounding area.

Other safety items to bring when camping include a knife, a multi-tool, and a fire starter. A knife is important for cutting food and building shelters. A multi-tool is essential for fixing things that break while camping. And a fire starter is necessary for starting fires in the campfire ring.

Fun & Games
